2.1 Do you consider that the South Lakeland District Council Land Allocations DPD is sound?
No
2.2 If NO please identify which test of soundness your representation relates to by selecting the relevant option(s) below and completing section 2.3.
The DPD is not effective in that the document is not deliverable, flexible or capable of being monitored.
2.3 Please give details of the change(s) you consider necessary to make the South Lakeland District Council Land Allocations DPD sound, having regard to the test you have identified at question 2.2 above.
It would be helpful if you could state your proposed change to the DPD and the reasons why you think it is necessary.
NB The following supplementary information was submitted 6th July 2012 along with a plan which is attached:
[Please find on the attached site plan with an area marked in purple which shows the area and boundary line for employment (being reallocation of part of M9M2-MOD for employment rather than housing to the area west of the existing employment site EEA47). After due consideration we believe this to be the natural boundary, as beyond this boundary the land starts moving into a natural valley, hence the land to the north of this proposed boundary should be reserved for any necessary drainage system that may have to be situated in this area so as not to reduce the actual land available for employment as shown in purple.
With regard to your second point, yes we are referring to the land behind the school which was original designated as R462M for the consideration of broad location, south east of Milnthorpe as a housing allocation.]
Please note we consider the SLDC Land Allocation DPD to be legally compliant however we do not believe it to be a sound solution to Ref M9M2-mod as housing.
The placing of houses on the areas shown on the plan Milnthorpe (Map5.1) Reference M9M2-mod to the south of Grisleymires Lane, would be detrimental for any possible future business development within an area previously designated for employment. The proposed section of land adjoins an established family business, with a mixture of industrial/retail and commercial businesses in a business park setting on existing employment site ref: EEA47, which has steadily been allowed to grow on this employment site for over sixty years, thus providing continuous local employment. In November, 2012, with the opening of a supermarket, there will be in the region of 140 people employed within various businesses on site.
However, the land proposed for employment allocation, being M9M1-mod with the addition of the land being M9M2-mod (to the west of the employment site EEA47 - Grisleymires Lane), would allow for businesses to develop efficiently and effectively, offering increased employment within an established business site with excellent infrastructure in place.
We understand there is a housing requirement for Milnthorpe and would kindly ask you to reconsider the land allocation (referred to as 'Broad Location' on the plan), which adjoins R151M for the provision of additional housing. This area of land is adjacent to an established housing profile, being close to schools, whilst also offering a pedestrian route to the village centre, with vehicular access to the development from the south of Milnthorpe. This would enable employment creation use to be targeted in the area currently allocated for such use and well served by the existing infrastructure.
