Please explain your reasons
HOUSING: My view is that the intention of building 64 houses on this site is too excessive as the houses would be too densely packed and not in keeping with the existing houses in the area. More importantly is the effect on the sewage / drainage system in Urswick road as this is already overloaded due to other recent building and has at present to be pumped out at least once a week to prevent it blocking(the smell in summer can be quite bad)also the field is prone to flooding at the north end while the rest of it becomes quite boggy after rain, where will all the water run off go to if it is concreted over?.The increase in traffic generated by these developments would be a major problem.
ENVIRONMENT: Swarthmoor hall farm currently uses this land for grazing and winter feed production. the farm is organic and grows its own feed as buying organic feed is expensive. The loss of this land would make the farm less viable and lead to a reduction in the size of their herd with a corresponding negative impact on jobs at the farm. Wildlife seen seen in this site include bats which live in the hedgerows, barn owls hunting at night and herons and wading birds when the field floods.
HERITAGE: Historic Swarthmoor Hall is the original home of the Quaker movement. To build on this land would encroach on the outlook from the hall, compromising the whole ethos of this religious site. Furthermore I am informed that that the owners of this land(the Quakers) do not wish it to be developed for the above reason and would like this site removed from your plan.
Although you say that you are maintaining the green gap between Ulverston and Swarthmoor you are in fact reducing it by a considerable and unacceptable ammount. This could set a precedent for the remainder of the land bordering Urswick road to be developed in the future.
In conclusion it appears that the ammount of housing planned for Ulverston is excessive considering the real (not hyperthetical) demand for housing in this area. There are many houses for sale in Ulverston alresdy, some not too expensive (cheapest 69,000) and prices will drop if they don't sell. There is also a need to attract major employers to Ulverston before any major house building program, small buisness units (at high rents) will not acheive this. To spend large ammounts of money managing this unneccesany project at a time of cuts would be fundamentally wrong.
