Please explain your reasons
Since we moved to Holme in 1991, we have seen a massive increase in the percentage population including the building of new housing at Turners Close, Chestnut Close, Holmefields, Pear Tree Park, Twinter Bank, Mayfield Avenue, Town Head Fold and at the end of Mount Pleasant off Burton Road. Based on the census returns, this equates to an increase of over 50% during the last 20 years and any further growth would be unsustainable and put unnecessary strain on the village's infrastructure, not least the utilities and the school, which has no room or desire to expand any further. Of the areas being proposed for housing development, R675M, RN200, R32 and specifically RN94 not only absorb the only remaining green space in the village, but are completely inaccessible from all sides - be that Burton Road, Sheernest or Station Road, with housing already on the Northern side. This suggestion to build on a greenfield site, miles away from any sources of employment doesn't appear to fit with the Council's environmental responsibilities to reduce carbon emissions as more people would have to travel further to work. With increasing fuel costs, commuting to work will in the future become less attractive and even houses on the present development on Mayfield Avenue cannot be sold. The lack of local awareness and research by the Council is patently demonstrated by the suggested site R551, which is already a privately owned house and garden.
