Please explain your reasons
Barbon is well balanced with a mix of built-up areas, green spaces including small fields, and open countryside. The proposals retain this mix successfully. The village sits comfortably within its backdrop of magnificent scenery; and from the surrounding fells it has the appearance of a quintessential English village nestling in the Lune valley below. This quality landscape must not be lost by inapproptiate development in it or the surrounding area.
Do you think that your area needs new or improved community facilities? If so, what sort of facilities and where?
Please explain the types of improved and/or new community facilities your community may need in the next 15 years
The facilities which add significantly to the attraction of Barbon and the cohesion of its community include the Village Hall (essential) and its play area and new tennis court, the church, pub (with food and rooms) and village shop. All should be retained and encouraged to continue to adapt to changing needs in the future. The loss of any of them would be seriously detrimental to both residents and visitors. An improved bus service to Kirkby Lonsdale/ Sedbergh is very desirable, and the provision of land for allotments would be extremely benficial.
