Please explain your reasons
We contend that R689ULVM should be removed from the Local Development Framework plans for the following reasons:
SLDC Planning Authority has previously refused planning permission for further new properties to be developed at Crow Tree Farm in order to preserve the distinction between Ulverston and Swarthmoor. The LDF plans undermine that position.
The rectangular parcel of land bounded by Urswick Road, Wild Duck Lane, Swarthmoor Hall Lane and Park Road Swarthmoor, within which site R689ULVM is located, is productive agricultural land that contains no residential properties. That situation must remain to preserve the integrity of the green belt that is historically recognised as forming the boundary between Ulverston and Swarthmoor. The continued use of R689ULVM for agricultual purposes is critical for the viability of the farm and the employment it generates.
The owners of the land (Quaker Movement)have given no indication of their willingness or desire to sell their land. This then puts into question the integrity and the motives of the person(s) who have nominated this land to be considered for development.
Future employment in the Ulverston area is central to the credibility of the overall plan. The inclusion of site R689ULVM with the loss of employment from Swarthmoor Hall Farm is contradictory to that requirement. People need employment in order to afford housing. Where is the employment coming from? SLDC would do well to first of all attract and secure long term employment for the area.
There is land already available for development at Stone Cross. Why has this not been undertaken?
