I oppose any more housing development in High Carley/ Birkrigg Park as the sewage comes down to Urswick Road in Ulverston and causes AWFUL smells for the residents of Urswick Road. The sewers are overloaded and couldn't take any more. The drains have to be pumped out at least once a week as it is. We can't sit out in our gardens, and at worst the foul smell comes INSIDE our houses.

HERITAGE: This piece of land belongs to the Quakers and has close proximity to the historical site of Swarthmoor Hall, original home of the Quaker Movement. To build on this land would encroach on the outlook from the hall, compromising the whole ethos of this religious site. Furthermore, I am led to believe that the owners of this land do not wish it to be developed for the above reason, and would ask that you remove this option from your plans.
The current green gap between Ulverston and Swarthmoor would be reduced, and would set a precident for the remainder of Urswick Road to be developed.
ENVIRONMENT: Swarthmoor Hall Farm (organic) currently uses this land, and because of its situation between Ulverston and Swarthmoor, with houses surrounding it, there is already a limited amount of land available for grazing and winter feed production for their organic herd. To build on this land would affect the viability of his herd and therefore his and his employees livelyhoods.
Wildlife seen in this site include bats, barn owls, heron, waders, and even a kingfisher.
Field prone to flooding at right hand end.
HOUSES: Your plans indicate 64 houses for this land, which would be too densely packed, especially considering the present spacing of houses in the area.
The sewage system/drains on Urswick Road are already overloaded, having to be pumped out regularly (more than once a week) by a tanker.
The increased amount of traffic that would arise from such a development would be intolerable, as volumes and speeds of trafic on Urswick Road are already excessive, due to it being a main route from the Croftlands estate, via Main Street, Swarthmoor to join the A590 at Cross-a-Moor through to Barrow.
OTHER ISSUES: The ammount of houses planned for Ulverston is excessive, especially as employment in the town is deminishing. Are you in danger of creating a commuter belt for Barrow and Kendal? Thus forcing more people to travel and increase car usage, especially in the light of iminent public transport cuts. This would seem to be a political target drafted by the last government, and not really a legitimet requirement in this area, at this time.

Drains overloaded, having to be pumped out by tanker weekly at the junction of Urswick Road/Birkett Drive. Traffic would increase on already busy rat run road. New build houses would not be in keeping with the cottages already there, and would be too imposing. Flood area.

Flood area, this land has already been refused planning permission for good reasons, why bring it up again? Traffic created would make Mountbarrow Road, Birkett Drive and Urswick Road intolerably busy and dangerous, especially if all the other sites over the Croftlands estate were to be built on too. Drains already full to capacity.

If Built on this area of Ulverston would become an urban sprawl. Croftlands is arleady a sizeable estate, the proposed site would almost double the area covered by houses. R242 floods very badly, especially behind the Lancastrian Pub, and can be under water for days on end. The roads through the estate would become dangerously busy, especially Birchwood Drive, Mountbarrow Road, Birkett Drive and Urswick Road, as people travel through to Cross-a-Moor to join the A590. The sewers are already full to capacity. A massive amount of money would need to be spent on infrastructure to accomodate so many houses, and who would pay for that? I think Ulverston needs jobs first.
Notes on the map that has been provided
Stone Cross in Ulverston as I understand has been bought by Persimmon, yet has not been developed, surely this would be an ideal place, which is already earmarked for houses, and yet I can't see it on your map, are they not developing because of wrangles over listed building status? Why not relax your rules a bit so this site could go ahead? rather than building on greenfield sites.
