Please explain your reasons
As this land was not mentioned in the SHLAA, we agree with the view that this is not identified for the development of housing. The site in question is a green field site unlike the current Birkrigg Park development which was built on a brown field site. As the proposed site was for recreational use, we agree that it should remain so, also the proposed development we do not feel would be a rounding off as it was never part of the original design or plan for the site. We see this as extending the development into a greenfield space and as such would impact on both the natural environment and wildlife - bats, birds and other wildlife which nest in the many trees (another issue). Also the proposed access road would bisect the recreational area which would have implications for its use as an open space and would make it unsafe for children to play. The road junction from North Green into East Drive is already busy, and a further junction along from this would cause chaos at busy times.
Do you think that your area needs new or improved community facilities? If so, what sort of facilities and where? Please explain the types of improved and/or new community facilities your community may need in the next 15 years
The propsed use of the site for a community recreational area and allottments would be more suitable as this would have limited effect on the local environment and wildlife of which there are many species of birds, bats and small rodents in the area - also hedgehogs, frogs etc. Any building on these allottments would have to be as on Birkrigg Park, subject to planning application.
