Please explain your reasons
I wish to strongly oppose to the proposal which incorporates the building of 71 dwellings within the green gap area off Valley Drive. RN117M
1) To the rear of my home is a public footpath which has been there for many years. I do not have a map of this but the footpath should be marked on an ordnance map. If entry via any of the cul-de-sac side roads were to be opened up then the traffic would cross this public right of way. The road running through Valley Drive estate is currently used as a rat run to bypass Kendal Town Centre and has become a very fast road over the years. This is mainly due to the road being opened up due to many new housing developments which have taken place over the last three decades. We do not want any more developments to take place in this area and feel that there are other sites around the town and it’s outskirts that would benefit more.
2) Many homes residing in this area would lose all their privacy not to mention natural light due to the proposed buildings to the rear of our properties. All of these homes face directly onto the land in question and the prospect of 71 dwellings is too large a number to fit into such a small area. This raises a lot of concerns for existing residents.
3) There are several over head power cables which cross the proposed site and there has been bad press regarding housing developments being strongly opposed within close proximity to these. This again should be taken into consideration during the proposal stages.
4) The land in question is home to sheep and cows not to mention other species of wildlife. It is the only green gap left available within the link to several housing estates. There is also a bridle way from Valley Drive to Archers Meadow which is used by many walkers and their dogs. There is also an historic sheep fold on this land which should be saved.
5) Affordable housing is not affordable if there are no jobs available to our young generation. There are currently hundreds of homes for sale in the Kendal area alone at the moment and yet there are cries for more homes. I think this is just an excuse for the council to sell the land to developers and raise more money without giving any thought to the damage that will result in the loss of this public open space.
Please keep our countryside within our town boundaries thus allowing animals to graze on this site. Kendal is after all a market town!
