Dear Sirs
We are writing to express our objection to the proposed development of Burton-in-Kendal and in particular the area RN 145 M.
Whilst second home ownership is not a major problem in Burton-in-Kendal there is, arguably, pressure on affordable housing. However, with the pending development of The Royal Hotel this will be greatly alleviated.
Any new development has to be sustainable as recognised by the two local Councillors, Brian Cooper and Roger Bingham when, during a recent visit by the Housing Minister Grant Shapps, discussion was held concerning “fears that over development would over strain existing infra-structure and services and harm the rural nature of villages”. I argue that the proposed development of Burton-in-Kendal would do just that. In fact precedent has been set as a previous application for residential development at Clawthorpe, Burton-in-Kendal was refused in part due to insufficient local infrastructure.
However, if there has to be development then the areas should be restricted to infill and try not to expand the development boundary – in particular RN145M as this intrudes on what can only be described as quintessentially English countryside.
Burton-in-Kendal is a dormitory village with the vast majority of people having to travel, in the main by car, to work, to secondary school, Doctors and other services/amenities and with existing pressure on parking, the primary school and other amenities such development is not sustainable and should be curtailed.
Yours sincerely
Terry Bryars & Gae Hicks
