The site in question was formerly a poultry farm which was in production until 2008 and was granted planning permission late 2007 for a holiday lodge park of 80 units. So far due to the current economic downturn it has proved impossible to develop the site for this purpose and is now desperately in need of redevelopment. While not strictly in terms of planning criteria a " Brownfield site " it is to all intent and purposes one. We recently attended a special meeting of Hincaster Parish Council to discuss this matter and was heartened to find a great deal of support for this housing proposal on a number of grounds. Firstly there seems to be a feeling that due to limited supply of affordable housing in the Hincaster area that there are few young families in the area which is leading to top heavy ageing population . This is having an impact on the local schools projected numbers. The proposed development at Greenside would use the same facilities in Milnthorpe ( doctors surgeries, shops, banking etc.)that would be used by any proposed development in nearby Heversham.Indeed one of the main objections by local people in the area appears to be the destruction of green fields which does not apply in this case. With regards to traffic in the area, a full survey was undertaken for the lodge park and a development of this size should not lead to any more traffic than the lodge park would and the access point onto the road network has good visibility.

The proposed site forms part of a former employment site and for this reason it lends itself well to this type of use in some form or other.Having attended our Parish Council meeting recently concerns were expressed that may lead to some form of heavy industrial use which I must say I would be whole heartedly against myself.I would envisage any such development to be along the lines of small " live and work " units to compliment any proposed housing. Indeed the feeling of the meeting I attended seemed to favour slightly more housing in preference to light industrial use on this area of land.
