I would strongly oppose the development of this small site as it extends the southern boundary of the town beyond the natural delineating break formed by Watercrook lane. Once this is "breached" there is no further obvious boundary and development would be into a fairly open landscape with no woodland or other natural features to contain the development or mask it in the wider landscape. The existing boundary of Watercrook lane and adjoining mature trees on the line of the old canal to the north satisfactorily contains and limits the existing employment site zone and this should not be breached.

Home Field in Natland(R62) is an important open space providing landscapeviews from the village to the SW and particularly of the "Cockpit" (believed to be an ancient tumulus or burial site) and over to Helsington Barrows beyond. It forms an important link between the village green and open countryside and prevents the centre of the village from becoming isolated from the surrounding countryside. Given the development and extension of the built-up area along the east side of Sedgwick road in recent years it is important that the west side here remains as open land to avoid development of an "urban corridor" for through traffic. Historically this field has been used for a variety of community events, village bonfire etc and should continue to be available for this sort of use in the future. There are better areas in the village for housing development (R68M and R690M) or for other community use -car park / allotments - on land immediately north of the village hall (souther portion of RN150) and adjoining land north of the vicarage.
Do you think that your area needs new or improved community facilities? If so, what sort of facilities and where?
Please explain the types of improved and/or new community facilities your community may need in the next 15 years
There is a recorded and active demand in the village for a small number of allotment gardens.
Some parking provision near to the school would ease the short term parking problems which arise from parents collecting children from school by car. However care should be taken not to over-react to this limited-time problem and roads in the village should NOT be "improved" or widened as this would detract from the village character and encourage greater speed and traffic flows. The present narrow lanes are characterful and form an effective means of self-regulating traffic.
Street Lighting in the village has become excessive in recent years. It is wasteful, unnecessary and detracts from the village environment.
