These areas are significantly extending Ulverston as a town outwards towards an area of natural beauty, which should remain unchanged and unspoilt. The building of a huge housing estate will detract from the areas outsanding scenery.
The number of houses planned to be built is excessive for the size of the town, some 25% extra, even with the planned development being done over several years it is still far too many, Ulverston is a small market town, a tourist attraction aswell and should remain so, or the whole atmosphere of the town will be spoilt.
Where is the EVIDENCE for the need for this number of houses in this area? At a time when employment is declining including Glaxo a main employer of the town, where will the employment come from for all the extra people living here. Young people are moving out of the area for work.
I understand the need for affordable housing surly these houses could be built on infill ares in Ulverston, and between Ulverston and swarthmoor ( without impacting on Swarthmoor ) instead of extending the boundries.
I also have concerns about how the town will cope with the large number of extra people, in respect of local amenities. The large number of extra people will spoil the schools as they are, even if they can accomodate the numbers, it is already too difficult to see the local GPs as it is.
I am uncertain how the local roads will cope with the exta traffic, including around the schools, the roads will become more dangerous, and access difficult onto the A590 which is already difficult at peak times.
In all, the town does not need this large number of extra houses, the area and town will be spoilt for good, employment is not there or likely to be, roads will become too dangerous, schools too big.
Houses should infill, the boundry of the town should not be extended any nearer to Birkrigg than it is now.
Do you really want to spoil such a valuble town and area? The government are not now saying these houses have to be built so why go ahead with it?
Do you think that your area needs new or improved community facilities? If so, what sort of facilities and where?
Please explain the types of improved and/or new community facilities your community may need in the next 15 years
I feel the Town is well served as it is.
