I believe that the adverse affects of developing M41KM have not been adequately thought through by these Development plans. The document lists several other sites which although proposed for development have issues which need to be addressed and where a 'development brief' is advised. This surely applies to M41KM.
It is a sloping site with high elevation relative to the road and surrounding residential areas. It is a very prominent site visible on entering the town. So why is there no mention of minimising the impact on the surrounding area? If development were to proceed then sympathetic landscaping treatment would be required to avoid ruining what is a very beautiful entrance to the town. Arguably the best entrance that Kendal has.
Similarly sympathetic development and landscaping would be required to avoid ruining what is at present an extremely beautiful residential area. It is in no one's interest to destroy this. Neither local residents' nor the town's.
It goes without saying that traffic congestion in this area at rush hour is already a major concern to exisiting residents.
The present plan to develop M41KM does not reflect "the community's aspirations for high quality" one of the key factors of Core Strategy. At the very least the need for a 'development brief' should have been commited to for this area. Without this commitment I strongly oppose the allocation of this land for housing.
One more general point. Why do the plans make no mention of relocating and increasing the capacity of the Kendal sewage works to create a new site away from residential areas and with capacity to cope with the increasing development? Its present location so close to residential (and potentially expanding) areas seems completely inappropriate. Furthermore relocation would release more land for housing.

Support in part

Support in principle providing it does not destroy the attractiveness of the approach to the town. Therefore, development should address a planted buffer zone and suitable landscaping between the development and the main road as well as to the north of the wood.
