SCALE OF DEVELOPEMENT
The proposal is for an additional 1264 homes for Ulverston representing a 25% increase in population. This is far too large an increase for a small market town and will permanently change the character of the town. The proposed increases in developement land for commercial use are minimal and will only provide a small fraction of the additional jobs to support the increased population especially when the large job cuts at Glaxo in recent years are taken into account. The planners must assume that people will move into the area and commute to jobs elsewhere. This is an unacceptable policy. Homes should be provided where the jobs are and planning policy should discourage long distance commuting.
BREACH OF ESTABLISHED BOUNDARY OF DEVELOPEMENT
The roads of Birchwood Drive, Parkhead Road and Westhills Drive have marked the boundary of Ulverston to mthe South for 40 years and this boundary should be preserved to prevent urban sprawl towards Birkrigg Common which is an area of outstanding beauty used by hundreds on a daily basis.
Significant numbers of people from the Croftlands estate use the footpath through area R242 for dog walking running etc and this country path with be either destroyed or ruined by the developement.
